Get involved with Virgin Sport and the San Francisco community! It takes a village to make our events incredible, and everyone is welcome to join us. There are lots of roles available during the race and street party experience, so there is something to suit everyone. Examples of roles include...

Help Desk Volunteer
Help Desk Volunteers ensure runners are ready to tackle their events by issuing replacement race packs and answering any queries from both runners and spectators. You’ll need to be confident using a laptop.

Welcome the runners and show them the red-hot Virgin spirit right from the start by ensuring they know where to drop their bags and how to get to the start. Being vocal is key here! You’ll also assist runners and spectators with any event related questions they may have.

Start Volunteer
You’ll be at the start, helping runners find their correct timing pen and spectators are not able to enter the enter, while ensuring the area around you is kept clean and tidy.

Finish/Rewards Volunteer
Be one of the first to congratulate each runner crossing the finish line by awarding them their medals and handing out water, swag bags, and other delightful surprises.

Event Cyclist
As a Sweep Cyclist, you’ll cheer on the runners from the rear of the pack while providing on-the-ground support for Event Control. Lead cyclists lead from the front, cycling alongside our elite runners!

Course Marshal
Be on the front line of the course as you marshal a section of the route. Perfect for those who have running experience and like to cheer, as they know just what support the runners need!

Water Station / Baggage Groups
Perfect if you can gather a team of 15+. You'll be keeping our runners hydrated by handling out that all important water at a drink station out on the course - and cheering 'em on! Or we'll put your organizational skills to the test in the runner bag drop area within the race village. To register a group, please email [email protected] for the group-specific registration form!

Bib and Packet Pick-up
Great opportunity pre-event, especially if you are running in the event.

Yes! If you can pull together a group of 15-20 then we’d love to talk to you about manning a water station or helping in our baggage area as a team.

Volunteers must be 13 or older on event day.

FOOD TO FUEL YOU: Breakfast, Lunch or a Snack: we will provide you with food and drink to keep you fueled for the big day!

SWAG: You’ll get to keep a special event branded tee as a souvenir of your day.

THE EXPERIENCE: Volunteering is a great way to be involved in a large community event, experience the event from behind the scenes, support family and friends who are running and meet new people.  You’ll have a great day, we promise!

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a confirmation email. We’ll then keep you up to date with latest news about the event and in the week or two before the event we will invite you to sign up for one of our volunteer briefing evenings.  Attendance is not compulsory, however we would strongly encourage you to attend, as it’s a great way to meet the Virgin Sport team and your fellow volunteers. You’ll be given an overview of the event and a briefing on race day roles. There’ll be an opportunity to ask questions too.

Following the briefing you’ll receive an email with the general event briefing notes. Make sure you have a read over these before the day, so you can let us know if you have any questions.

On the day you will check in, have some food and will receive a detailed briefing from your area leader.
